I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw Tampopo on your list. It's also one of my all-time favorites. If you haven't seen it yet, rent A Taxing Woman, also directed by Juzo Itami.

I first saw it when I was stoned out of my mind in my senior year of high school, and then again a few years after I sobered up.

Amusingly, the initial showing was part of a double feature at the UofO. It was paired with "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover."

Now...besides developing a lifelong crush on Helen Mirren, I learned that Japanese cinema and Peter Greenaway are very very exceptionally horrible stoner movie flicks. The imagery is just too distinct.

I developed a lifelong love of Asian cinema, however. I adore Asian movies. Last night, I got to see The Host. 3$ at Laurelhurst. WELL worth the money, believe me.
